Study Material

Welcome to the Learn to Sing Information Page where you will find some useful study & reference material.

In addition to learning breathing exercises and singing techniques, you will also be taught a number of songs in 4-part harmony which should be good fun. Upon your arrival on the first Monday you will have a simple and brief "voice check", to assign you to a voicepart section, e.g. Bass, Baritone, Tenor or "Lead" (which is between baritone and tenor). Please do not worry or be put off: you are free at any time during the course to move to another voicepart section, as long as you inform one of the instructors. You do not have to be able to read music, although it helps if you do, of course. Most people don't!

LTS Course Songs

We have prepared both sheet music (in PDF format) and teach tracks (in MP3 format) for all the songs that we will work on during the course; these are located in the password protected page named Course Material of this website. In order to avoid any participant getting a head start you will all be given the Username and Password for this section on your first visit.

The Guardian and Observer Warming Up and Performing Tips

This is a selection of a number of pages from a booklet that was put together by The Guardian and the Observer, named Performing, part 2: Singing.

It provides some useful information about warming up, singing exercises and posture, as well as how your voice works. We have selected a total of 10 pages for you to download and read.

"How To Read Music" Document

This was put together for use at the BABS courses for Making Music & Choir of the Year. This is a very useful, basic and simple document to help you understand terminologies used in sheetmusic, such as staff, clef, note values and time signatures. You are free to download and print off a copy. Click on the image to access this document.
