'Learn To Sing' Courses
Over 250 courses have been run over the last 8 years up and down the country, giving the opportunity to thousands of people to experience the joy of singing.
The British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS), established in 1974, is a registered charity and the specialist umbrella organisation supporting male barbershop singing in the UK. BABS is the largest barbershop organisation in the world, outside of North America, and has 60 registered choruses (choirs) and over 70 registered barbershop quartets.
More and more people are experiencing the thrill and excitement of singing harmony in the distinctive barbershop style, which has seen a significant increase in membership of the association. They all share the joy of singing - but it’s the harmony that makes the difference!
It holds a national celebration of barbershop singing in the form of its annual 3-day convention, when over 2300 people gather together to perform, compete and be entertained in a fun and friendly environment. Click here for details.
BABS also runs a 3-day residential college plus training events and courses for musical directors, music teams, clubs and individual members. It disseminates music and training materials and puts individuals in touch with barbershop choruses and quartets around the country. In addition, it has its own training programme for competition judges, many of whom are invited to adjudicate at non-barbershop festivals.
As a charity BABS under its Harmony Foundation title also provides educational grants totalling many thousands of pounds each year, to anyone, male or female, to develop an interest in harmony singing and in performance.
Membership of BABS is open to individuals, quartets and choral groups who wish to add some barbershop harmony to their repertoire. Full details are available on www.singbarbershop.com
The British Association of Barbershop Singers is run purely as a voluntary organisation with no paid employees or officials. The elected Board of Directors manage the day-to-day running of the organisation, striving to develop and enhance the growing reputation of close harmony singing in the barbershop style.
